This project collects, documents and archives ninaivumalars produced by Ceylon Tamils across the world.
We are concerned not only with preserving and exploring these cultural treasures, but also promoting understanding and enrichment of Ceylon Tamil culture as it has evolved.
Ninaivu Malar serves as a resource for studying the evolving Ceylon Tamil religious traditions, genealogies, personal profiles, and social histories as our community expands globally, adapting to new cultures and civilisations.
We begin with ninaivumalars already collected from Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom and Canada, while endeavouring to gather more from Europe, Australasia, and wherever Ceylon Tamil migrants have settled.
Beyond preservation, we hope to encourage dialogue about the ninaivumalar tradition itself by inviting contributions through essays, articles, audio presentations and video documentaries.
We have made a start, but for this archive to flourish, we need more contributions from within and even beyond our community.
